Take 2: The Web We Weave
This week we continue with Jacob's story. After Jacob deceives his father, Isaac, by impersonating his brother, Esau, and stealing the blessing, Jacob falls in love with a woman, Rachel. Her father, Lavan, agrees to allow the two lovebirds to marry if Jacob works for 7 years. Jacob agrees, but on his wedding night, Lavan tricks Jacob. Instead of marrying Rachel, Lavan gives him Leah, Rachel's older sister. In the biblical time, brides and grooms did not see one another on their wedding day before the ceremony and the bride's face was covered with a heavy veil. You could only image Jacob's surprise and anger!
So, Jacob worked for Lavan for an additional seven years and finally married Rachel. Back then men could have more than one wife. Over the long period of time away, Jacob has the chance to reflect on his behavior. Watch the video above to hear about Jacob's transition from deceiver to truth teller.
